Westmoreland, ranked #2 in New York State in Class C and the #1 seed in Section III, Class C-1, needed 8 innings to knock off Tully on Saturday by a score of 9-8 to advance to today's final.
IHC, C-1's and the #2 seed in Section III, is also the State's #3 team , entered today with a (20-2) record. Both of IHC's losses came at the hands of State ranked #1 Frewsburg, during non-league play in April.

Westmoreland sent Ben Rolewiccz to the mound to face IHC junior ace Brian Magovney (5-0) for the C-1 crown.
IHC drew first blood in this one, early, when Pat Caldwell singled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Tino Alteri, to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead, after the visitors half of the first.
The home standing Bulldogs tied things up in the home half of the first when Craig Pawlikowski reached on a one out walk, was moved to second on a balk by IHC pitcher Brian Magovney.
Brandon Jones doubled home Pawlikowski to tie things up at 1-1, which is the way we'd head to the second inning.

Immaculate Heart added a second run in the top of the second when Connor Caldwell singled, stole a base and was singled home by Alex Sexton to give the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead.
The Bulldogs would tie things up again in the bottom half of third when Travis Rogers drew a leadoff walk, was SAC bunted to second by Pawlikowski and then, in almost textbook fashion was driven in when Brandon Jones' doubled for the second time to tie the game at 2-2, which is the way we'd head to the 4th inning.
The fourth inning went in the books as a victory for the pitchers and both teams' defensive units. Then after a scoreless top half of the 5th, Westmoreland looked as though their famous big bats might break through.
With runners at second and third and just one, Anthony Magovney dug in deep and struck out Jason Arcuri looking with the bases full of dogs to end the 5th inning.

(IHC's Pat Caldwell (12) turns on a third inning single.)
Dustin Exford singled, was bunted to second by Ryan Spicer and then scored on a clutch RBI double by Anthony Magovney to give IHC a 3-2 lead after 5 and a half innings of play.
Magovney was flawless in the bottom of the 6th, gathering 2 strikeouts and forcing Nate Kerpiec into an inning ending ground ball out, preserving IHC's 3-2 lead.
Brandon Jones relieved Rolewicz in the 7th inning and despite allowing consecutive one out singles to Brian Magovney and Tino Allen, managed to shut down IHC with back to back strikeouts of IHC's Exford and Spicer.
The Bulldogs were unable to bring in the tying run in the bottom of the 7th inning and IHC
held on to wrap up the Section III, C-1 Title by a score of 3-2.

Westmoreland ends a tremendous season at (19-3), while Immaculate Heart Central (20-2) moves on to the Class C Final this Thursday at Alliance Park in Syrcacuse.
After the game, an exhausted but excited IHC's Anthony Magovney told MHTS what he was thinking on the mound today. "I knew if I just kept the ball down and worked them into chopping ground balls, my defense would have my back today," he said.
And, about the game winning RBI double, Magovney added, "The double was all about having a smart at bat, getting a pitch to hit and executing it just worked out."
Magovney, who went all 7 for IHC and improved to (6-0) on the season on the mound, got the team's game ball for doing it on both sides of the ball today.

Brian Magovney, IHC's senior catcher and battery mate with his brother Anthony, echoed his younger brother's sentiments, adding, "I've been catching Anthony for like 10 years. I can anticipate his pitches, pickoffs, and I'm just so proud of today's outing. My brother is just a tough kid."
